Who We Are

Since 2019, we have been a voice for the voiceless. We have uplifted our youth via the “Black Male Media Project.” We are inspiring more creators and writers to become journalists. We are making a space for them via our very own news Paper (F&S Tribune). We are mentoring our members to ensure they have thriving careers as media professionals.

Our Mission

We strive to strengthen ties between African-Americans in mass media. We aim to sensitize mass media to institutional racism in coverage and employment practices. We believe diversity, equity, and inclusion shall be present in all newsrooms. We encourage the entry of minorities into mass communications. We will honor excellence and outstanding achievement among Black journalists.

Writers, creators, dreamers, and thinkers are the documentarians of history; they call us journalists! Whether we tell a story with a photo, a video, or an article in a newspaper, be it online or on paper, our stories will live on. That is why diversity and inclusion are vital in mass media. Representation matters! It's not just about the storytellers; it is about the stories that are being told.”

What We’ve Achieved

  • We’ve partnered with the MSU NABJ chapter and hosted a pitch challenge. There, up-and-coming journalists had their resumes reviewed, and seasoned professionals mentored them to prepare them for the next steps on their career path.

  • We’ve organized and hosted a Black Male Media Project event each year.

  • We’ve organized countless network events and mixers to build a strong army of Black journalists from Flint to Saginaw.

  • We are true to advocacy so much so that we take action when necessary. A press release from our former president Ebony Stith.

  • We’ve had media professionals come to us with issues they were experiencing with their employer, and we were there every time. We will continue to be advocates and offer firm backing to inequity!
